Our Story

Welcome to HMCC of Jakarta!

In 1996, Harvest Mission Community Church started as a group of eight people meeting on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor who shared a common vision to see a church like the one they saw in the book of Acts - devoted to following Christ, sharing the gospel passionately with their community and making an impact that would spread to the ends of the earth. While praying for God's direction, the church officially began in the fall of 1996, and by God's grace, more people began to come and experience life transformation through the community, teaching, prayer, and worship.
God has truly been faithful over the years in fulfilling that initial vision. We have seen biblical community being lived out, the gospel being shared, and lives being saved and transformed by Christ throughout our campuses and communities. We marked a significant moment in HMCC history in the fall of 2006, as we planted a church in Evanston, Illinois, on the campus of Northwestern University. Since then, we have also planted churches at the University of Illinois in Chicago and the University of Texas at Austin.

And in July 2009, a family of five and a team of eight were sent out from Ann Arbor, to start an international church in the heart of the most populous Muslim nation in the world. Our desire is to be passionate in our love and worship of God, and devoted to sharing the gospel and the love of Christ with all of the people in this metropolitan city.

Our target consists of three groups of people. First, since our church is an international church, we want to reach out to the expatriate community who live in Jakarta and LippoKarawaci. Secondly, we want to reach out to Indonesians who studied abroad and have an international worldview. The third group consists of Indonesians who never left the country but are able to speak English. But eventually, it is our heart's desire to reach out to a fourth group of people - they are the Indonesians who do not speak English and who live in the various islands in Indonesia. God desires to bring the Gospel to the whole nation, especially in remote areas where people have yet to hear about the name of Jesus.

As we minister to people in Jakarta and Lippo Karawaci, we want to see lives - spanning various life stages, cultural differences, and socioeconomic statuses - transformed for the worship of God.

As God is moving powerfully in this great nation of Indonesia, we are excited to see all that God is going to do. We invite you to experience with us the exciting story of transformation that God is constantly unfolding before our eyes!
