Missions Month 2019: “Loving the City”:
“We know we can’t ignore the city because it is God’s invention. He had an original plan, and we’ve done our best to ruin that plan. Now he desires to redeem it. He calls us into the city to love, to preach, to identify, and to bless” (Tim Keller, Why God Made Cities).
As God’s people, we are called to be a visible “city” within a city (Matt. 5:14) and to “seek the welfare of the city” (Jer. 29:7). We are not to ignore, abandon, or abuse the city, but we are to love, engage, and build the city- that the God of all grace would be known, believed, and glorified!
For four Sundays, from Sunday (4/28) to Sunday (5/19), we’ll first look at “The Church,” where loving the city must first begin as we gather together as the body of Christ, and then where it ripples out as we scatter into the city in “Friendships,” “Work” and acts of “Mercy & Justice.”
As follow-up to Missions Month, we'll be having a series of classes after Sunday Celebration on the following Sundays:
- Disciple-Making Principles (4/28)
- Missional Initiatives (5/5)
- Missional Social Enterprises (5/19)
